Flea Circus (2007)
Steve Quelet
Potter County Pennsylvanian delivers crusty, humorous and often wise tales. Quelet’s percussive guitar and wizened wily voice are enjoyable and distinctive. An entertaining off-beat take on people, places and things, great stories and catchy bouncy melodies, sometimes sparse but effective production. Outstanding. Favorite cuts: Flea Circus, Ever Since, Anything You Say, Power of Attorney, Mars Needs Women, Vegas Elvis, Goodbye St. Augustine
Do It! (2007) Bob Mecklenburger Folk Earnest, folksy finger picking songs, beautifully produced and executed. New Jersey native Mecklenburger has a sweet voice reminiscent of John Denver and covers subjects in his home-spun philosophy ranging from death to dieting. Favorite cuts: Trees Don’t Grow To The Sky, I Ain't Nothing, Mountain Pine, Do It!
Other Lives (1994) Lessick & Lincoln Pop-Folk NJ duo full of happy harmonies, often with sad lyrics. Folk themes of war and injustice mostly told in ballads, mixed with love songs, silly songs and poetics. Some Simon & Garfunkel and Everly Brothers channeling going on. Sparse instrumentation and simple production give it an intimate feel. Favorite cuts: McDonald, Plains of Colorado, Miriam, Old Red Barn
Ten To One (2008) Tom Chirip Folk-rock With a laid back Southern California feel, South Jersey based Chirip rocks harder than ever before on his 3rd independently released CD. Like usual, he surprises the listener with his idiosyncratic sense of melody and spiritual takes on life. Favorite cuts: County Stomp, Greetings, Carry A Heart, Shine
